Well the test run of the Dive and Dash was a success, based on feedback during and after our Thursday session from 9:30 to just after 11:00… Lots of emails from those who could not come because of their schedules…

The concept met 3 criteria – It was Fun, It was Cooling, It was Cardio – which I believe can benefit those that want to walk during the summer. Even if its walking to one pool and back home… Oh, don’t forget to hit the outside shower at each pool before going in…

Manatee Pool in The Villages July 2015

The 6 miles of pole walking with 3 pool swims spaced throughout is the type of workout that is in keeping with the ibodyWALK concept… More than a walk with poles… In fact you don not need a pool as there are over 100 exercises with the poles that focus on one of 3 need areas depending on ones desire and ability. Exercise and Stretching for Health, Fitness or Sport.

My appreciation out to; Bob Arserio and wife Kim, Ron Sudol and wife Janet, and of course my wife Nanette and daughter Alexis.

Wacky Way to Walk n The Villages Florida

The Wacky Walkers is one of many in The Villages Florida taking advantage of all the benefits that come with using the Poles.

The Wacky Walkers is one of many in The Villages Florida taking advantage of all the benefits that come with using the Poles.

No matter what we call this NEw wAY To wALk, we would all agree that we want the benefits ( the biggy is near to double the calorie burn followed by a dozen more ) which is reason enough to add poles and strength cords to any ordinary walking routine. There are many types of walking poles that are specific to who, where and why you are wanting to use the poles.

After leading 100s through basic Pole Walking instruction; then introducing the “Walking Neighbor Directory” in The Villages Florida, I was confident they were well on their way to developing another healthy habit in community, which increases their success. Some of these walking groups even come up with crazy names for their group; one of which is the Wacky Walkers. The Wacky Walkers is one of many groups that get together regularly and walk with or without poles.

Having said that; it was great to read an article I received a few days ago in The Villages Daily Sun Nov. 26th (which by the way, happens to be the greatest retirement community on the planet). The timing of this article also coincides with my family visiting The Villages between Christmas and New Years… And yes I will meet with as many of the 600 who I have given instruction and poles to over last year.  Even those that have never used poles and do not own poles – we have you covered. All you need to do is reach out to me for the Dec 28 – Jan 2 2015 daily walking sessions. Will need to reach to me via Facebook.

Send this website link announcement to anyone you may know in The Villages… Even 1st time Pole Walkers as I said earlier can use the loaner poles I will procure.

Engagement that Works Walks and Talks

Let me begin by saying; as a health, fitness and sports professional for over 40 years I have experienced by way of educating, innovation, coaching, promoting and mentoring countless, that we are about to make a significant shift in the way we educate, deliver, engage and sustain desirable health and fitness for everyone. I of course am not anti health club, anti sports, anti coach, anti anything with good intentions that will improve health and fitness safely. In fact, I am all about the solutions that match today’s reality, which seem to change almost daily – one would think.

We as a society are trying to keep up with the next best thing, experience or product… Technology, the Speed of Thought required today and our Human Nature are looking to mesh in a way that balances the scale for a better life for everyone… Being able to do, be and have more by using countless technology drivers is not better, when it’s at the expense of you – the human seeking a full quality of life ).

We have to do some things that will seem a little off the wall to some, yet as my experience as been privileged to be part of the several of greatest trends relative to health and fitness in my 40 years in this space. Some are products, some are activities. A couple that I believe will be headed that way soon I will briefly touch on…

Yes, ibodyWALK is not meant to be another come and go product and program. What will make it more desirable is the multiplier that comes to everyone everyday to their walking. If we move to the Jetson’s age we may stand or sit and be moved from here to there in a blink. I hope not, as I want to experience physical stimulus and interaction with others. The purpose of ibodyWALK is to engage as close to a simple movement that we all use to go from point a to b (without transportation modalities – bikes, cars, etc ) and that is by WALKING.

Here a great motivating infographic in the link below:

Sit and Stand Ergotron Sitting Should Scare You

The other area will be in how we sit, at work, home and leisure. This next space will come quick, and in fact has already arrived in some places. Trust me here; it’s not a fad. I am engaged with several potential partnerships that are going beyond the initial desk and treadmill at work or at the home office. There are as I speak – innovations that will encompass this next trend and beyond. Don’t be turned off by what it appears to be today as this will change to accommodate the greatest number of users.

ibodyWALK Core – Kayak Pole Crunch

Great core work…

– This is a beginner move when you sit with feet on the ground while nearly sitting straight up and then paddling slowly.

– This is an intermediate move ( as shown in video ) when you sit with feet on the ground while leaning/pivoting backwards at waist, with back flat ( no slumping, head back as well – neutral ) and paddling slowly in order to maintain a steady balance point ( which moves very slightly and engages the core ).

– This is an advanced move by simply initiating the intermediate movements with additional backwards lean/pivot. Always stop repetitions when you feel the form begin to deteriorate. Less with great form in multiple sets is best

ibodyWALK Pole Setup

While all the construction is going on at ibodyWALK I thought we would continue to insert pre-production work from time to time. This will include content, images or videos. I you have questions or are interested in programing for a particular area, please reach out to me at  your convenience.

Get Walking! Got Poles? Looks Silly? Wrong!

onw-passion

… Let me say it again;

Get Walking! Got Poles? OK, Looks Silly? Wrong!

Athletes, Non Athletes, Health Challenged, Motivated or Not

LET’S MOVE.

I have collected 1000s of images such as the image above which are from around the world. Having shared with other industry colleagues like “Marko” (pictured center) who have led the growth of pole walking/nordic walking in their own countries and beyond. Marko resides in Finland and has been highly successful in leading the way for some time. The interest has now become a focal point now in the U.S. as we continue to experience continued emphasis on the importance of walking.

With ibodyWALK we will gravitate away from a one demographic mind set or stereotype one might suspect when you see others walking with poles. The key difference and the reason for the continued growth in the program with poles is simply in the ways the poles and tubing are being used. That key factor has drawn others who may not initially be interested in to wanting to be part of the experience and results.

This is not meant to be a promotional post, simply educational. Taking Your Walking to the Next Level is critical I believe in order to increase the numbers of walkers. I might add that we are getting away from the idea that one has to move all in one 30-60 minute session. To integrate motion that increases pulse, puts a safe load on bones/joints and increases muscle strength can all happen in 5-15min periods.

So join the MOVE while you TALK and WALK at your next meeting 😉

ibodyWALK Logo and Branding ( wants to here from you )

red white blue with ibodywalk tm 4200 x 1100 aprox

What happened before my one minute pitch during the Shark Tank interview for the show was clear to me that we are on track to break the stereotype that most think of when they see someone walking with poles. The change is here to overcome the stereotype whether you walk or do not with poles. There is so much more and with that the rising tide of participation in the U.S. raises all ships 😉

I presented to a seasoned Fitness Professional who saw these images above before I pitched my ideas. He said; “no need to say anything, I get it, in fact I see poles out here in Santa Monica, California a lot. Really was not attracted to doing it myself, as I am a runner. Yet these images add something that gives me more and opens up to doing it with others anywhere….”

If you have an opinion, of course give me what you like and do not like, or what you hope for to grow ibodyWALK…

Reviewing a few branding options in the header and this post – Which one do you like, or not. If you have an idea for one, please send it to my email at tkennedy@ibodywalk.com
